Celebrating Love!

Tomorrow is Valentine’s Day. Since I am a romantic at heart, this is a holiday I like a lot.

My husband (of almost 44 years) told me he realized he better learn to take Valentine’s Day seriously the first year we were married. He came home from work in early February, and the house was decorated for the upcoming holiday. Not especially romantic by nature, I have appreciated Ron’s efforts to express love in ways that mean a whole lot to me—like looking for a good stick when we’re at the beach so he can draw hearts in the sand!

We all have our special love languages. A lover of words, I never get tired of hearing, “I love you” spoken by those dearest to me. Not all feel that way. I remember a friend telling me she appreciated the beautiful love poems her husband wrote to her, but when she really felt loved was when he offered to scrub the kitchen floor!

Words of Psalms 139 became very important to me during a time when I wasn’t remembered on Valentine’s Day. One lonely night while reading from The Living Bible, the intimate words penetrated my wounded heart, and I still remember exclaiming, “God, you know my name, and you really love me!”

Oh, how I appreciate God’s willingness to express His Divine love in a way I will never forget! I hope these words will speak to your soul about God’s amazing love for you even if you are not remembered on Valentine’s Day with a lovely card, candy, flowers, or special dinner.

1 O Lord, you have examined my heart and know everything about me. You know when I sit or stand. When far away you know my every thought. You chart the path ahead of me and tell me where to stop and rest. Every moment you know where I am. You know what I am going to say before I even say it. You both precede and follow me and place your hand of blessing on my head.

This is too glorious, too wonderful to believe! I can never be lost to your Spirit! I can never get away from my God! If I go up to heaven, you are there; if I go down to the place of the dead, you are there. If I ride the morning winds to the farthest oceans, 10 even there your hand will guide me, your strength will support me. 11 If I try to hide in the darkness, the night becomes light around me. 12 For even darkness cannot hide from God; to you the night shines as bright as day. Darkness and light are both alike to you.

13 You made all the delicate, inner parts of my body and knit them together in my mother’s womb. 14 Thank you for making me so wonderfully complex! It is amazing to think about. Your workmanship is marvelous—and how well I know it. 15 You were there while I was being formed in utter seclusion! 16 You saw me before I was born and scheduled each day of my life before I began to breathe. Every day was recorded in your book!

17-18 How precious it is, Lord, to realize that you are thinking about me constantly! I can’t even count how many times a day your thoughts turn toward me. And when I waken in the morning, you are still thinking of me! (Psalms 139:1-18 TLB)

You are loved, dear friend!
