Extending Easter - Renewal Monday
In Orthodox Christian traditions, today, the Monday following Easter, is often called “Renewal Monday” and is an important extension of the Easter celebration. Easter Monday is considered a holiday in many countries. For instance, in the United Kingdom, most banks are closed.
I love the idea of making the day following Easter a holiday. I must, however, remember that spiritual renewal does not occur only on the Monday following Easter. It is a journey, a continuing process of discovery in which I keep placing one foot of faith in front of another.
During the season of Lent, I completed a Lenten devotional that took me through the Gospel of Matthew. Prior to that, I had read the Gospel of Luke. Each time I read one of the Gospel accounts—Matthew, Mark, Luke, or John—my understanding of and my love for Jesus and the good news—or Gospel—grows deeper.
I hope your Easter was blessed in many ways, and that your spirit feels renewed as you remember Christ’s Resurrection. I hope, also, that you will continue to join me on Mondays and Thursdays as we grow deeper in spiritual renewal and discovery.
