Lost Luggage & Lesson Learned
On June 1, 2023, my husband and I flew out of Venice, Italy to Frankfurt, Germany on a Lufthansa flight. Ron and I traveled to Europe with only carry-on luggage, but the flight attendant requested I check my bag because of the crowded plane. When we arrived in Frankfurt, my luggage did not show up. After searches and inquiries, we learned the suitcase never left Venice!
Initially, I felt annoyed, but annoyance soon turned to admiration.
The response of the German airlines to my lost luggage was impressive. From the customer service clerk who spoke flawless English; to the texted status updates received every few hours; the personal delivery of my suitcase the next day; and a generous reimbursement of Euros for my inconvenience, I grew to admire a nation filled with resilient, efficient, ethical, and trusting citizens.
Germany may not have been included in our European travel itinerary except that my niece and her family are living for a season in Wiesbaden, and I looked forward to seeing these precious “peeps.” Time spent with our gracious family and getting acquainted with a picturesque nation became highlights of our international adventure, and we will forever cherish the time spent in Germany!
Wiesbaden, located in the western German state of Hesse, is home to several U.S. military operations established following WWII. Evidence of the ancient mingles with modern efficiency in this lovely, thriving city. Because Wiesbaden was primarily residential, it escaped bombings during the terrible days of war when much of Germany was decimated. Today, magnificent churches, houses, and government buildings grace its well-kept neighborhoods, shopping districts, and parks.
Here are a few photos of the beautiful city of Wiesbaden, Germany:
Ron spotted this porta-potty while we were eating lunch at an outdoor restaurant. Despite language differences, the humorous graphics leave no doubt of its purpose!
May love, grace, and harmony unite us!
