Three Great Questions to Ponder During Lent

Last Autumn, I participated in a book club which explored Seeking God – Finding Another Kind of Life with St. Ignatius and Dallas Willard by Trevor Hudson. I wasn’t familiar with the author, a Methodist minister from South Africa, but since then, I take every opportunity I can to listen to what this kind, gracious, and humble man has to say.

In a recent podcast, Hudson suggested asking three questions during the season of Lent as we focus upon what behavior we are giving up as well as what spiritual practice we want to embrace. I found his questions very helpful and wanted to pass them along to you. (Since I wrote them down quickly while listening, these are not exact quotes):

  1. Is this practice going to bring me to a place of deeper preparedness for Good Friday and the deep mystery of Easter?

  2. Is it going to bring a helpful intensity to my relationship with Christ?

  3. Will it deepen the quality of my relationships with others—especially those who are closest to me and may be in pain?

Even though we are well into the season of Lent, I hope these questions will help you even as they have benefited me.

By the way, in case you’re interested, I am sure I will purchase this little devotional book by Trevor Hudson to use for Lent 2024.

Blessings on your journey!
