Holding Joy and Sorrow

So often, it seems, life happens in a way that leaves us holding joy and sorrow simultaneously.

The first time I was aware of this was when my older daughter was around six-months old. My heart ached after attending a very sad afternoon funeral. At dinnertime, our baby daughter ate her favorite strained veggie with gusto. I recall the pure joy I felt while watching Angie’s big toothless smile showcased on a tiny face smeared with bright red beets.

I also remember the tension of feeling guilty about such delight on the tragic day.

Have you experienced a similar situation?

As I ponder this matter, I ask a question. Could it be one’s soul-capacity expands when we rejoice, even amidst grief, and laugh while muddling through heart-wrenching sadness?

Would love to hear your thoughts.

Whether joy or sorrow is the predominant feeling you’re experiencing right now, I pray God’s blessings on your journey,

Blessings on your journey!
