Thank You, God, for Freedom
It’s so good to be back with you as you join me, and once again, together, we Listen on the Journey ….
Two months ago, I bid you “so long for now” to begin a two-month break to spend a couple weeks preparing for a trip to Europe; then, spending four weeks in Italy, Germany, and France; and finally, taking a couple weeks to process and re-group after our return home.
Many of you followed me on Facebook and Instagram while we were in Europe, and I loved receiving all the “thumbs up,” “hearts,” and comments. It really was fun sharing some highlights of this long-dreamed-of, perhaps once-in-a-lifetime international adventure.
Ron took over 15,000 photos during our trip! I’m not kidding—15,000!! At last report, he had whittled them down to 1,500, and over the next few weeks (months???), I’ll be sharing some of those photos with you along with comments and insights I had along the way.
Our trip was AMAZING (caps necessary!). My heart is full even though my body still feels the effects of over 420,000 steps we took, hundreds of steps we climbed, myriads of museums and magnificent cathedrals we visited, plus a collection of memorable moments that impacted all our senses—sight, sound, touch, smell, and oh, my goodness, TASTE! (Once again, caps are essential).
Today, however, I want to remember the freedom we enjoy as citizens of the United States. While it was a privilege to visit other countries, both Ron and I love the U.S.A. and our home in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. We feel grateful God chose to place us here.
Early last Friday morning, we took one of my favorite walking routes-- along the lake, around the Coeur d’Alene Resort boardwalk, and the Veteran’s Memorial in McEwen Park. The little over two-mile jaunt never fails to nurture my soul. You locals will recognize these scenes, and for you who live elsewhere, let me remind you this is a beautiful place to visit!

Ron and I will spend most of today with our Olson family at Sunup Bay Resort on Lake Coeur d’Alene. The July 3rd celebration is a favorite event each year. Our daughter’s father-in-law, Dennis Olson, was the founder of the special celebration. Dennis, an exceedingly fine man and one of the most patriotic people I have met, always said July 3rd was his favorite day of the year. Poignantly, for the many who loved him, Dennis transitioned to his Heavenly home on July 3, 2021. Today, he will be remembered often as his family and Sunup Bay friends carry on the tradition, which will culminate with an amazing fireworks display.
