The Sweetness of Remembering
In today’s Listening on the Journey … blog post, I want to remember a woman whom I never met in person but who I came to know primarily through the social media connection of Facebook.
Through a mutual acquaintance, I learned recently this precious lady died earlier in the month. My soul still feels the sting of sadness since receiving the news. I sorrow for her husband and all who loved her, and I also feel sad she will no longer be my Facebook “friend.”
Through the wonder of social media, I learned this lady:
had a marvelous sense of humor, often self-deprecating and never mean-spirited, which helps me remember: A happy heart is like good medicine … (Proverbs 17:22 (NCV)).
loved friends, family, and her beloved cats, and I remember God is love. (1 John 4:8) and the greatest [human emotion] is love. (1 Corinthians 13:13).
never forgot the legacy left by her parents, and I remember the commandment to “Honor your father and mother.” [which] is the first command that has a promise with it—(Ephesians 6:2).
was an encourager. She followed my blog on Facebook and was generous with her “hearts” and “likes.” I have written a blog for over five years. My motivation has never been to be “liked,” but rather, to be faithful to what I believe God has called me to do. Thinking back, however, on my Facebook “friend,” I remember the power encouragement gives to help others persevere: So encourage each other and give each other strength (1 Thessalonians 5:11).
In conclusion, I would like to echo a prayer of the Apostle Paul in memory of a woman who was a beloved wife, friend, co-worker, family member, cat-mama, and my Facebook “friend:”
I thank my God every time I remember you, (Philippians 1:3)
Blessings as you remember those who made you laugh, loved you, honored you, and encouraged you,
Blessings on your Journey,
