Focus on Thanksgiving

Since the fourth Thursday of each November is a legal holiday in the U.S. known as Thanksgiving Day, my thoughts turn toward thanks each November. I realize, however that gratitude and thankfulness must not be confined to one day—or even one month. They must become disciplines I practice often throughout each day of the year.

I’m learning that tending the soul with gratitude, despite life’s circumstances, enables the fruit of God’s Spirit *:  love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control* to grow within me.

Modern neuroscience confirms what ancient biblical texts teach. Practicing thankfulness changes our brain’s chemistry, helping to create happiness and build resilience.

Throughout November, I will be emphasizing gratitude, thanksgiving, and blessing in the Listening on the Journey … blog posts, using various thoughts, Scriptures, and of course, Ron’s lovely photos, many of which showcase the splendor of autumn.

            Until then …

Blessings on your journey,

*Galatians 5:22-23
